Over the years gas furnaces have proved to be some of the most reliable means of home heating. That, however, does not mean they are bulletproof and will always come on and work when you need them. Like any type of mechanical appliance, they are prone to occasional breakdowns. One of the most common problems on forced air gas furnaces is their failure to ignite and come on. It can be a very frustrating experience that literally leaves you out in the cold.

Of course, when your Rinnai gas heater service furnace fails to ignite you can pick up the phone and call your Rinnai gas heater service repair person. That service call is not going to be free for sure; this is especially true if it’s after normal business hours. The alternative is to save yourself some money by trying to repair your furnace ignition problem yourself.

Often times the reason Rinnai gas heater service does not get to your furnace’s igniter is because it is restricted. The main reason for this air restriction is usually traced back to dirty air filters and injectors. So check your Rinnai gas heater service if your gas furnace fails to ignite when you turn the system on. It’s also a good idea to replace your furnace’s air filters at least once a year.

If you suspect a furnace gas leak, deal with this immediately! First, if you smell natural gas in your home or near the furnace, do not light any matches or turn off or on any switches. If the gas odour is strong, immediately evacuate your house, leaving the door open.

Turn off the gas supply valve, typically located by your gas meter on the gas inlet pipe. Turn off the gas by rotating the valve one quarter turn with an adjustable wrench. When the gas is off, the valve’s oblong stem points perpendicular to the inlet pipe. Then call your gas utility or the fire department from a remote location. Do not return to your home until you know it is safe.

Rinnai hot water fault code 11 indicates a no ignition or no gas supply on your continuous flow hot water system. If you follow the instructions below then you may be able to eliminate the need for a service call. If the Rinnai gas heater service or hot water error code 11 is flashing on the digital monitor of your unit, or on the status monitor if you have a hot water controller installed, the first thing that you should do is check that your gas supply is turned on at the water heater or gas meter.

You can check if your gas supply is working as it should be by turning your gas stove on and then turning a hot water tap on. – a gas supply issue may be present if the flame on the stove drops in pressure, of if your gas stove does not work then there is no gas supply present. To turn your gas supply on, if it has been shut off, you should first ensure that all of your household appliance taps and controls are turned off. When dealing with a gas hot water heater you also need to ensure that the water taps are off also.

Since your water heater was professionally installed and was working for some time, I will have the same assumption as with the above problem. Check the loose wiring for the PC board, power supply, and flame rod. Clean the flame rod from scale build-up and burner from debris and dirt. Check for short circuits on the gas solenoid valve, reconnect all wiring connections. Make sure there is no obstruction in the venting system that gas combustion chamber gets enough fresh air, and the unit vents the gases out correctly.

The Rinnai error code 12 in relation to your continuous flow hot water system indicates that there is either a flame failure or a low gas flow. It is advised that when first noticing any fault code on your digital or status monitor that you should try to clear this by turning the hot water tap off and then on again.

Troubleshooting your Rinnai tankless water heater is often a matter of reading the error code the unit provides when a hot water issue comes up and performing basic troubleshooting steps for that error code. Since Rinnai water heaters are one of the most advanced tankless water heaters available, we recommend to contact a service technician that’s authorised to work on Rinnai water heaters.

Each Rinnai unit uses a temperature controller (either MC-91-1 or MC-91-2) on the front panel to display various configuration options for installation as well as error codes for when problems arise. The previous nine error codes are stored in memory. To access these codes, hold the ON/OFF button for two seconds and simultaneously press the UP arrow.

While some error codes can be easy do-it-yourself fixes with a few simple tools, others are more complex and require the help of a professional plumber. Since you are dealing with natural gas and advanced technology, it’s often best to at least contact us!

If your heater isn’t working but you can see a steady, blue pilot flame, the thermostat may not be signalling the heater to come on. That could be because the temperature around the thermostat sensor isn’t cold enough, and you can check by turning it up all the way. If that has no effect, one of the wires inside the thermostat box or in the heater may have separated.

Failure to find a disconnected wire may indicate a faulty gas valve. Replacing a gas valve is a potentially hazardous job and is one for a professional service technician.

Few things are worse than preparing for a hot shower or bath only to find that you can’t get any hot water. However, if your gas water heater keeps shutting off for no reason, this is precisely the position you may find yourself in! The main reasons that a gas water heater automatically shuts off are because the pilot light goes out, the pilot light can’t start, or there are problems with the gas supply.

If your gas water heater keeps shutting off, the thermocouple could be dirty, bent or damaged. The thermocouple is usually easily visible next to the pilot light. Inspect the thermocouple to determine if it is dirty or damaged in some way. If it is dirty, turn off the gas to allow the thermocouple to cool. You can then clean the thermocouple by gently sanding it with fine sandpaper.

You can convert propane to natural gas with most gas appliances, and vice versa. Convert a gas grill from propane to natural gas or a natural gas stove to propane is included in this flexibility. To be sure, consult your owner’s manual, look on the manufacturer’s website or contact them directly. Typically, some kind of conversion kit is required, even if just to change the size of the gas jets.

Your gas appliances are manufactured for use with only one gas and will not work safely with the other gas. Never attempt to connect a gas appliance to the wrong type of gas, as it can be extremely hazardous.

Gas heaters, whether they warm up air or water in a home, rely on a pilot light to trigger the flame of the actual heater. If this pilot light ever goes out, the heater has no way of actually turning on to heat the water or air that your particular type of heater circulates to warm the house or other elements. Knowing how to maintain the heater and troubleshoot the everyday type of issues with pilot lights will help you avoid costly repairs.

Gas is funnelled to the tip of a pilot light via a supply line that is connected to a natural gas or propane supply. As the gas passes through the tip of the pilot light, it is ignited by the action of the pilot light, which is either electronic or manual.

Over time, this tip can become corroded with soot and residue, blocking the gas from exiting the tip. It must be cleaned to operate at full capacity. A toothbrush works well, but you can also run a piece of flexible wire in and out of the orifices on the tip to scrape debris off. You should check at least every six months for the best results.

The thermocouple is the copper rod you see the pilot flame hitting. It’s a safety device that controls a small valve to shut off gas going to the pilot light if the flame goes out. If it didn’t shut the gas valve, all that gas could get into your home. If it was ignited, it’d cause an explosion. So, the thermocouple is like a lifeguard, standing watch until something goes wrong. There are a few problems related to the thermocouple that can cause the pilot light to go out.

If your thermocouple is broken, it will shut the valve even if the pilot light was working fine. And you won’t be able to open the valve manually, either. A professional HVAC contractor needs to replace the thermocouple if that’s the case. Don’t worry, they’re inexpensive. Soot on the thermocouple will block the flame, so the thermocouple won’t work properly. Gently clean the soot off with a wire brush.

You would be surprised how many gas furnace users do not do this step when their heater does not start up and end up getting charged for an expensive HVAC service call. A gas furnace burns a mixture of air and natural or LP gas. If the air in your system is not flowing it cannot produce the required gas/air mixture and your home heating system will not ignite because of it.

Often times the reason air does not get to your furnace’s igniter is because it is restricted. The main reason for this air restriction is usually traced back to dirty air filters. So check them if your gas furnace fails to ignite when you turn the system on. It’s also a good idea to replace your furnace’s air filters at least once a year.

When the thermostat light (Emergency Heat Light) is flashing or on during normal operation (whether in the cooling or the heating mode, but not the Emergency Heat mode), this usually indicates that the outdoor unit is “locked-out”. This means the outdoor unit has shut itself off because of a problem, and it sends a signal to the thermostat, letting you know that there is a problem.

When this happens, the indoor unit tends to keep on running because the indoor unit doesn’t know there is a problem. And if the outdoor unit isn’t running, the indoor unit will most likely never satisfy the thermostat; it will just keep running and running and running.

To protect the room air fan from dust particles or lint, a filter is situated at the rear of the appliance. When this filter becomes blocked, the filter indicator will flash to indicate that it should be cleaned. Clean the filter weekly during the heating season. Dusty filters reduce the air flow through the appliance reducing heating effectiveness.

Each Rinnai Flame Fire heater has a distinct flame pattern. The flame should look the same every time you operate your heater, after an initial warm up period of approximately 15 minutes. Abnormal flame performance and/or pattern can indicate a problem with your heater, such as blocked gas injectors, incorrectly installed / inadequate flue system or the artificial logs/burn media may have shifted from when the heater was first installed.

There are some warning signs that could indicate a problem. If any of the signs below occur, please contact us immediately.

When your furnace is not used for long periods of time, dust can collect on the heat exchanger and in the air ducts. When the furnace is turned on, the dust burns off and releases an odour. It is normal for dust to burn off when the heater is turned on for the first time in the winter season and not a cause for concern. This smell should disappear in a few hours. If the problem persists, check your air filters.

When you turn on your furnace for the first time each year, it may smell like a damp basement or like dirt or dust. The musty odour comes from dust and dirt collecting in the air ducts, which gets blown throughout your home when the furnace turns on. If this smell persists throughout the heating season, it could mean you need to change the air filter.

While the presence of kerosene odours may not indicate a problem with the gas heater, burning logs within a closed vent fireplace can produce other undesirable effects. Faulty or incomplete combustion processes can cause soot to accumulate on burning logs.

Soot results from partially-burned natural gas emissions. When this happens, some of the carbon used in the combustion process turns into soot while other carbon molecules join with oxygen to form dangerous carbon monoxide gases. Even in cases where no soot accumulates, burning vent-less logs for long periods will deplete the oxygen supplies in a room, so some form of ventilation is necessary after a while.

Many homeowners discover that their furnace is not working when they go to turn it on for the first time of the winter season. If you find that your furnace is not igniting at a time when you need it most, try these easy fixes first in an attempt to get your heating system up and running in a short amount of time as possible.

Although this may seem obvious, be sure your thermostat is set to heat and that it’s actually colder in your house than the temperature the thermostat is set to. If it is neither of these reasons causing the issue, try turning the fan switch to “on” to force the furnace to start blowing air. If your furnace still refuses to turn on, check your programmable thermostat for an error code. Often, newer electronic thermostats will display an error code if something is wrong. Check the display and see if it tells you what the problem is.

When you are using a heater, please change air once or twice every hour for one minute by using a fan or opening a window. When a user keeps using a heater in an environment with insufficient ventilation, he/she may suffer from carbon monoxide poisoning due to incomplete combustion. In the worst case, this could result in a fatality.

An unclean filter impedes heating ability and could result in the failure of the product. The filter could become clogged and prevent air intake. This may invite abnormal combustion and temperature increase, causing the product to malfunction. Please clean your heater about once a month.

To de-activate the Function Lock, simply press both arrow buttons simultaneously for 2 seconds and the Function Lock indicator will go out. The lock can be de-activated at any time in this way.

When the Function lock is activated during normal operation all heater controls other than the OFF switch will be locked. Deactivating the lock releases the controls. If the lock is activated whilst the heater is turned OFF, then all heater functions will be locked. If the heater is turned OFF whilst the Function lock is activated, it cannot be turned ON again until the lock is deactivated
